MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — Middle Tennessee men’s tennis welcome student-athlete Javier Cueto Ramos for the 2023-24 season announced by head coach Jimmy Borendame.
“I am excited to work with Javi,” said Coach Borendame. “This is a very unique situation because he was originally signed to play for us in 2019, but things didn’t work out and now we get to work together. Javi is a great guy and team player. His tennis speaks for itself and his doubles will be a huge asset. He is fiery and will be a great crowd pleaser with our huge crowds at the ATC and the new Bouldin Tennis Complex.”
A native of Tenerife, Spain, Ramos transfers to the Blue Raiders from Columbus State University after he completes his fourth season with the Cougars in May.
In his three seasons with the Cougars, he finished with a 35-5 singles record and a 62-12 doubles record.
Ramos is a two-time ITA National Division II Indoor National Champion in 2020 and 2021. He is a three-time doubles All-American and finished year-end No.1 in doubles twice. Ramos reached the DII NCAA semis last year. He is ranked the No. 8 player in the country in singles.
Ramos was named the 2021 Peach Belt Freshman of the Year as well as 2021 Peach Belt All-Conference. He was Peach Belt Conference First Team in doubles and singles for 2022.
Before his time at Columbus State, Ramos attended Synergy School in Tenerife, Spain.
He had seen some success in ITF Juniors being ranked as high as No.144. In 2018, Ramos was able to win an ITF Juniors doubles championship as well as a singles championship. He also earned the doubles national championship in 2018.
