TENNIS ICON ROD LAVER RETURNS AS DUNLOP AMBASSADOR

TENNIS ICON ROD LAVER RETURNS AS DUNLOP AMBASSADOR

11-time Grand Slam winner used Dunlop tennis rackets throughout his career

Dunlop has announced that legendary tennis star Rod Laver will return to the brand as an international ambassador. Laver, who remains the only player to win THE Grand Slam twice at four Majors in the same year, used Dunlop rackets throughout his career.

The appointment comes at a significant time for Dunlop, who will become the official ball partner for the Australian Open from January 2019. Laver will feature in promotional content ahead of the Australian Open as well as supporting Dunlop’s presence at the year-opening Grand Slam, where the main stadium court is named in his honour.

“Dunlop and the Australian Open are two things synonymous with my tennis career and it’s the perfect time to be returning as an ambassador for Dunlop to support their new partnership,” said Laver. “The Australian Open always proves to be a great spectacle and with the players being able to play with the best tennis balls available, it can only enhance the quality of matches that we see. I’m looking forward to the 2019 tournament and seeing the amazing fans that flock to Melbourne Park year in, year out.”

Laver added: “The technology has been revolutionised since my playing days, but one thing that has remained the same is the passionate competitive spirit with which all people all over the world are able to love the game. Dunlop played an integral part in my career and I’m delighted to be partnering with them once again as they relaunch themselves in the world of tennis.”

“We’re delighted to be working with Rod, who is regarded by many as the greatest tennis player of all time,” said Kiyoshi Ikawa, Head of Product Planning & Promotion for SRI. “Rod’s success is iconic in the history of Dunlop and the chance to work with him again at such an exciting time for Dunlop is an unmissable opportunity, especially given that he is synonymous with the Australian Open. Rod is highly respected by today’s tour players and we’re looking forward to working with him in the coming year.”

Laver’s affiliation with Dunlop goes back to when he was 16 years old, where his first paid job was with the brand selling rackets and playing demonstration matches in outback Queensland, Australia. When his career began, Dunlop came on board as his first major sponsor and the pair remained together throughout his 22-year playing career, with Laver winning over 200 singles titles using Dunlop products.

Laver used the wooden Dunlop Maxply racket throughout his career, helping steer him win THE Grand Slam twice in 1962 and 1969. The first generation of the racket was launched in 1932 and remained in production for over 50 years.

DUNLOP CELEBRATES FOUR FINALISTS AT THE WIMBLEDON CHAMPIONSHIPS 2018

July 15, 2018 – (Leatherhead, U.K.) Coming under a new ownership in April 2017, Dunlop players reached the Wimbledon Finals with superstar KEVIN ANDERSON’s thrilling run to the Men’s Singles Finals by beating Roger Federer in the quarter-finals and John Isner in the semi-finals. In the finals, he played against Novak Djokovic in an exciting game of 2-6, 2-6, 6-7 (3-7).

The 32-year-old South African used the Dunlop CX 2.0 Tour LE racket on the road to his Wimbledon Finals match, the same racket he played on his way to the 2017 U.S. Open Finals. With him beating highly ranked players and reaching the Finals, Anderson moves to a career high ranking of No 5 in the world.

“Since he began as an ambassador for our company, we’ve seen Kevin’s game grow at a meteoric pace, and although he wasn’t able to win today, this trip to the Wimbledon final is still a testament to all his hard work and dedication,” said Masahiro Asahino, CEO of Dunlop International Europe Ltd. “As a company, we share those same values, and it’s our mission to continually improve our products and set new standards in the tennis industry.”

Another Dunlop Tennis superstar, YUJI KAMIJI, won her fifth straight Women’s Doubles title in the wheelchair event at Wimbledon this year. This win adds to her Australian Open Doubles and French Open Singles titles earlier this year, using her Dunlop CX 4.0 racket.

JAMIE MURRAY was unable to defend his Wimbledon Mixed Doubles title, losing 6-7, 3-6 in the Finals. He uses the Dunlop CX 2.0 racket.

Dunlop D Squad 16-year old Junior JACK DRAPER excelled in the Boys’ Singles at Wimbledon this year, going all the way to reach his first Wimbledon Finals. In a tightly fought match, he narrowly lost out to the No 1 seed Chun Hsin Tseng 1-6, 7-6, 4-6. Jack uses the new Dunlop CV 3.0 F Tour racket.
