STEPHENVILLE, Texas – The Tarleton tennis team is looking for the upcoming spring to be a lot like the last one, and they won’t have much longer to wait to get started.

The Texans announced their 2023 spring slate on Tuesday, which begins at Oklahoma on Jan. 14. There are 21 scheduled regular season matches total from January through April, capped off by the WAC Tournament, which Tarleton is eligible to compete in this year for the first time.

Tarleton, who won the Western Athletic Conference Southwest Division last year with an unblemished 5-0 conference record (18-4 overall), will have nine matches against fellow WAC programs this year, starting March 17. The Texans will be at home seven times in 2023 playing in Stephenville, including five straight matches from March 3-19.

Head coach Elianne Douglas-Miron and her team will begin the spring at Oklahoma on Jan. 14 for a doubleheader match against the Sooners and the Missouri Tigers. The Sooners were the national runners-up last year, advancing to the NCAA Division I Women’s Tennis Championship round, where they fell 4-1 to Texas. This will be the second straight season Oklahoma and Tarleton will match up.

Two weeks later, Tarleton will play its home opener on Jan. 28 in a doubleheader against Cowley College and Weatherford College.

Tarleton will be on the road for all five matches in February, heading to Oral Roberts, UTSA, Texas State, Pacific and Sacramento State. Then the Texans will be at home for the first five of seven matches in March, hosting Tyler Junior College (March 3), Louisiana Tech (March 11), Drake (March 14), UTRGV (March 17) and UT Arlington (March 19). Tarleton will head to east Texas for the last bouts in March, at Stephen F. Austin on March 24 and at Sam Houston on March 26.

There will be five regular season matches in April for Tarleton, two at home. They’ll start at Abilene Christian on April 1, then host Grand Canyon on April 6 and New Mexico State on April 8. The Texans’ final two matches will be at Seattle U on April 14 and at Utah Tech on April 16.

The WAC Tournament will be held at the Arlington Tennis Center on April 27-29. The Texans would have been the No. 1 overall seed in last year’s postseason tournament.
