DUNLOP NEW SX SERIES RACKET YEAR 2020

DUNLOP LAUNCHES NEW SX SERIES RACKET RANGE

Performance racket range features unique SPIN BOOST technology to enhance spin and deliver industry-leading control and consistency

27th September 2019, Tokyo – Dunlop has unveiled its new SX Series range of rackets, the most advanced range of spin rackets available on the market.

Comprising of five premium performance tennis rackets, the SX Series is the first range to feature Dunlop’s innovative SPIN BOOST technology, which provides players with more spin and significantly increased control and accuracy, allowing them to play spin shots with more confidence.

Dunlop’s global research and development team found that with players hitting harder shots faster than ever, spin is increasingly being used to combat speed and keep the ball ‘in’ when returning aggressive shots. To effectively utilise spin, Dunlop found that players need a more forgiving racket that not only provides more spin, but more control and consistency on off-centre shots.

The SX Series was thoroughly tested by Sumitomo Rubber Industries (SRI) in Kobe, Japan, with the rackets demonstrating 3% more spin and 13% more consistent ball trajectory than its previous spin racket series.

“The SX Series is a result of tireless work by our global research and development team,” said Masahiro Asahino, Head of Tennis Division for SRI. “The end product is a range of spin rackets redefined for the modern game with players benefiting from increased consistency and control. Spin is a significant part of tennis at all levels but it’s not just about more spin, it’s about being able to achieve consistency in your play and the testing has shown that the new technology in these rackets essentially means that your net just got lower and your court just got bigger by delivering more consistent shot trajectory.”

“The SX Series will allow players to express themselves by playing with more consistency,” added Patrick Mouratoglou, Dunlop Global ambassador, founder of the Mouratoglou Tennis Academy and coach of Serena Williams. “Spin is a hugely significant part of any tennis player’s game and the SX Series provides them with a more balanced racket to play spin more effectively. The Sx Series helps you gain control through spin. Thanks to a larger sweetspot, it gives you extra power and extra forgiveness. You need to be able to trust your racket and the SX Series gives you the assurance that you have a racket which plays exactly how you want on every shot.”

The SX Series follows the release of the CX Series racket range in 2019, which focused on providing players with increased control. The name reflects Dunlop’s new Elements of the Game naming concept designed to simplify consumer understanding and reflect the main performance benefit of each racket range; SX – Spin, CX – Control.

DUNLOP SX SERIES – ‘SPIN REDEFINED’

The new Dunlop SX Series range of rackets combines the latest, state-of-the-art technology from the Dunlop Tennis Research and Development Team. After a lengthy development process, the result is a class-leading range of spin rackets that out performs key competitors and redefines the way that players use spin.

The new and innovative Dunlop SPIN BOOST technology is at the heart of the SX Series. The experts behind the rackets provide an exclusive look into the background and key workings of the technology to create a game-changing product.

THE CHALLENGE

Tennis is constantly changing. The advances of equipment technology and the way that players train in recent years means that more time is being spent on the baseline and the classic ‘serve and volley’ is fading from the game.

Increased time on the baseline means that players are striving to out hit their opponents and the speed of groundstroke shots has never been faster. However, speed and power often come at the detriment of control and the chances of hitting the ball off-centre and making errors are noticeably increased.

Dunlop found that players are increasingly having to adapt their game, including an increased use of spin – be that top spin or slicing the ball. As well as changing the trajectory of the ball to ensure it stays ‘in’, spin can help wrestle back control of hard-fought rallies by creating unpredictable bounces of the ball to keep players guessing.

The analysis found that off-centre (spin) shots were twisting the racket on impact, directly leading to inconsistent shots and increased errors. The tangible end results were that shots were going longer and being called out or going shorter and hitting the net.

“Spin is a significant part of tennis at all levels but it’s not just about more spin, it’s about being able to achieve consistency in your play.” Masahiro Asahino, Head of Tennis Division for SRI

MEDIA QUESTIONS

WHAT MAKES THIS RANGE DIFFERENT?

Building on the momentum of the Cx Series, Dunlop continues to utilize state-of-the-art Japanese technology in its performance racket ranges.

The Sx Series is the first Dunlop racket range to feature SPIN BOOST technology and rather than just providing players with more spin, creates a much more balanced and forgiving racket to increase accuracy of shots.

It’s more than just a spin racket, it’s more forgiving and accurate than its competitors.

WHY SHOULD I BUY THIS RANGE?

The Sx Series is designed for the modern player and helps combat the increasing use of power in tennis today.

As well as endorsement from world-renowned coach Patrick Mouratoglou, the Dunlop Sx 300 offers 3% more average spin on shots and 13% more consistency than previous range.

The result is a racket that helps players hit more accurate shots, reducing the number of errors on off-center hits.

HOW DID DUNLOP TEST THE RACKETS?

The rackets were tested by Sumitomo Rubber Industries in Kobe, Japan.

All racket were tested and brand comparisons made using a robotic swing test in controlled conditions.  Data was measured using the Trackman monitoring system.

To refine the performance of the rackets, Dunlop gathered feedback from current Tour Team players and coaches.

HOW DOES SPIN BOOST TECHNOLOGY BENEFIT PLAYERS?

The technology provides players with a more forgiving and balanced racket when playing spin shots.

Players can hit powerful, topspin shots with a lower risk of them going long or hitting the net due to this state-of-the-art technology.

This is because SPIN BOOST technology has helped make ball trajectory more consistent.

WHAT ARE THE KEY STATS OF SPIN BOOSE TECHNOLOGY?

The Dunlop Sx 300 has:

  • 3% more spin and 13% more consistent ball trajectory in terms of height and distance*
  • 46% more string slide motion at low impact locations of the racket (compared with high impact locations), meaning more height and distance on shots which may traditionally hit the net.

*Comparison between Dunlop CV 3.0 and Dunlop Sx 300.  Tests conducted by Sumitomo Rubber Industries, Kobe, Japan.  All rackets tested using robotic swing test in controlled conditions.  Data measured using Trackman monitoring system.

DUNLOP PARTNERS WITH NEXT GEN FINALS

OCTOBER 22, 2018

Dunlop will be a Gold Partner of the Next Gen ATP Finals, commencing immediately. The multi-year partnership will see Dunlop provide the official ball for the tournament, as well as receiving a number of promotional rights for the innovative event.

The 2018 Next Gen ATP Finals take place in Milan from November 6-10, with the world’s top 21 and under tennis players to compete using the Dunlop Fort All Court Tournament Select ball.

The partnership adds to Dunlop’s recent official ball partner agreement with the Australian Open as well as existing partnerships with high-profile events on the tennis calendar. Supporting these events, the Next Gen ATP Finals provides Dunlop with the platform to focus on one of its key objectives of targeting and engaging with younger tennis fans to develop their love of the game and ultimately grow participation of the sport globally.

“We’re delighted to be partnering with the Next Gen ATP Finals, an event that is taking tennis to new audiences,” said Kiyoshi Ikawa, Head of Product Planning & Promotion for SRI. “The passion for innovation fits perfectly with our brand values and provides a great opportunity for us to engage with younger tennis fans and consumers. The ATP understands the need to make the game more appealing to new fans and we’re really excited to be a part of it in the upcoming years.”

Now in its second year, the Next Gen ATP Finals has been praised for the introduction of several innovative rules to raise the tempo of matches. Unique to the event, it features first to four game sets, shorter warm-ups, shot clock, a no-let rule and Hawk-Eye Live which removes the need for line judges. The inaugural event in 2017 was won by South Korean Chung Hyeon, who enjoyed a breakthrough 2018, reaching the semi-finals of the Australian Open and registering wins over Novak Djokovic and Alexander Zverev.

“We are very pleased to have reached an agreement with Dunlop because we believe they provide the best ball on the professional tennis circuit,” said Sergio Palmieri, Tournament Director Next Gen ATP Finals 2018. “To demonstrate how much we appreciate the quality of the Dunlop ball, in addition to the Next Gen ATP Finals, we have also finalized a multi-year extension for the ATP Masters 1000 Rome – BNL Internazionali D’Italia.”

As a Gold Partner, Dunlop will have strong branding presence with its logo present across the in-stadium branding in Milan and Dunlop-branded ball coolers on court. Directly engaging with spectators, Dunlop has a brand activation and promotional area at the event.
